Urge your Representative to support The NAN Project in the

FY26 House Budget!

The House will soon begin debating amendments for inclusion in the final House budget for FY26. Our friend and champion Representative Michael Day has filed an amendment to provide continued state funding to The NAN Project.

Thanks to the incredible support from the legislature in the past few years, The NAN Project continues to expand its reach and serve students in need all across the Commonwealth. In the 2023-2024 school year, The NAN Project (TNP) worked in over 85 towns and cities across Massachusetts providing behavioral health education and connections to mental health resources for more than 12,000 students as well as 2,500 educators, family members, and community partners, at no cost to participants. As we look toward the coming years, we will continue to expand our programming to meet the increasing needs of young people and promote open conversations about mental health to ensure that all young people who are struggling receive the services and support they need to thrive.

Subject: Support The NAN Project in the FY26 House Budget

Message:

I am writing to urge you to prioritize the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the FY26 budget by cosponsoring Amendment #1341: The NAN Project, filed by Representative Day. The amendment will allocate $500,000 for The NAN Project to support expanded programming. The demand for effective mental health promotion and suicide prevention resources has never been greater throughout MA schools. Students, their families and teachers continue to experience unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression. Peer-to-peer support provided by The NAN Project’s young adults with lived experience provides hope and relief to young people who are struggling with mental health challenges. The NAN Project has adapted and strengthened its mental health education and suicide prevention programming to confront the mental health crisis that is overwhelming our schools and communities. In the past school year, TNP partnered with 85 schools, reaching over 12,000 students and 2,500 teachers, family members, and community partners, with an emphasis on underserved, diverse communities — all at no cost to schools or communities. We equip young people with the knowledge to recognize mental health challenges, support peers, and seek help from trusted adults. As demand for Tier 2 and 3 supports grows, TNP serves as a critical link between schools and community resources. As we look toward the next school year, The NAN Project is preparing to expand their programming to reach more middle and high school students across the Commonwealth. This funding would allow The NAN Project to hire more staff, provide diverse professional development opportunities, and expand training, supports and workshops that address the mental health needs of high-risk student populations that need additional support, including LGBTQ, low-income, and non English speaking young people. State funding is vital to The NAN Project’s ability to continue providing these much needed services. Can I count on your support? Thank you for your consideration.
